Hamster Boy is Sick

Hi gang, Hayden has bronchiolitis. We've all had a dreadful cold and he and I caught it the same time. I noticed the night before last that he sounded wheezy (my asthmatic ears are always cocked), but he seemed fine. Yesterday as the day wore on, I noticed he was sounding louder and louder and was starting to work a little harder to breathe. So around dinner time, off to Emergency at Children's we went and four hours later were home armed with prescriptions, drugs for a study he got enrolled in, a mask for the nebulizer we need to pick up today and lots of papers. His mood was completely fine - when the triage nurse listened to him she said "whoa - he IS noisy" and then called over to the infant area and told them "we have a happy level 2 wheezer". FYI, level 1 is the worst, so he was pretty wheezy.

Everyone was great, especially him. He had to endure the following and did about 90% of it with a smile on his face:

nose culture (no smile there, but way better than the last time he had that done)
tylenol (loves medicine)
O-sat on his toe (oxygen saturation meter) (was curious and tried to pull it off the whole time)
mask with medicine twice (first time, fell asleep; second time, wasn't so keen on it)
thermometer in butt three times (that feels funny....)
10mls of steroid medicine (made a funny face but forged forward anyway)
blood pressure (tiny, tiny cuff!)
multiple listens to his chest through the stethoscope (wanted to eat them)

Other than being extremely tired and not knowing what to do with himself, he was a real champ! We got home around 10:30pm.

I probably won't be posting again for a few days while I get him sorted out. I have been working on a post from the 19th that I have yet to publish (he turned nine months old that day), so will try and work on that. In the meantime, I'll be reading everyone else's blogs to get by (how did I survive before this?)

Take care everyone!
